This one's for Deb...

...and for anyone else who's ever written a press release.

Noah Shachtman, the editor of Wired Magazine dubbed it the most incredible press release of all time. I think it's got a great future as a public relations teaching tool. It's sure to capture the attention of students everywhere, if only for the CEO quote: “We completely understand the public’s concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population, but that is not our mission,” stated Harry Schoell, Cyclone’s CEO."

That comes after another gem straight from the press release writer's pen: "Desecration of the dead is a war crime under Article 15 of the Geneva Conventions, and is certainly not something sanctioned by DARPA, Cyclone or RTI."

Much as the entire press release reads like something from The Onion, both Cyclone Power Technologies and their remarkable press release are apparently for real. (Press release link is to a pdf.)

My thanks and tip o'the link hat to Making Light.

"How was work today, honey?"

"Oh, it was the greatest. I got to write a press release explaining that our robots are vegetarians and therefore won't feed on humans. It went out this afternoon."

Oh My. I'm thinking "Mr. Fusion"?

The comments on the "press release" are priceless.

Great minds. I'm not sleeping right now, so I was reading Wired and saw the release...and just blogged separately about it.

And yes, Cyclone appears to be real. *snicker*
