Years ago, I happily wore one of the FOMS ribbons
tammylc was handing out. When in convention mode, my fear of missing something clearly contributes to my tendency to skip sleeping in favor of, well, just about anything. Yes, I know about the 5-2-1 rule. My own application of it is supplemented by
carnyjack's,
drwhuh's,
kaffyr's, and my long-held truth: Food is Sleep. (Sleep is not food, but food is sleep.)
Today I acknowledge that it's not just conventions. FOMS is one of my core traits; it's who I am.
And that's why I'm up and ready to head to the Metro at such an unlikely hour. The hotel I'm meeting
debgeisler,
benveniste, and
smofbabe across the street from the Library of Congress Manuscript Reading Room. I can easily spend another 60-90 minutes reading letters sent to Ephraim George Squier 150 years ago before I join them for the day's main event, the
Rally to Restore Sanity (and/or Fear).
I'm so there. Luckily, it's in person rather than watching it
live on the intertubes starting at noon.
The schedule.

What part of the Mall is the rally? For the March last year we were on the...west side of the Capitol (the one facking* the Mall). I'd never been that close to the Capitol buildingn, and loved how it looked like a mound of butter cream frosting.

*Fifth spelling error of this post. I need more coffee.
The stage was set up at 3rd Street West so the Capitol was directly behind it. We were between 4th and 5th Street West, somewhat more south than north, but fairly near the center. The rally stretched back to 7th Street officially and overflowed that space.
I was pretty close to the front for mine, and really don't know how much we filled the Mall. (There was also a breast cancer marathon rally on the opposite end by the Lincoln Memorial.)
A few days ago I caught footage of the March on Washington in '63, was...thrilled, is guess is the best word, to think that I'd gotten to do my version of the same.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your hospitality! Staying with you and Pooch is magnifying my considerable delight in the time here.
Also, glad someone went to the Rally to Restore Sanity! Fringefaan made it to Seattle's satellite.
