My 2011 is starting with a hat trick of conventions: Arisia, Capricon, and Boskone!

If you're going to be at Arisia, Capricon, and/or Boskone, please comment. If you're thinking about any of them, c'mon along! It's been too long since I've seen too many of you.

I'm coordinating the Fan Tables at Arisia, helping fete the FanGoHs at Cap while also doing various Chicon 7 Smof-type things, no doubt, and hosting a Poppyseed Cake Tasting & NESFA Press Book Launch tea party at Boskone. Big Fun and then some, I trust.

Thanks to excellent fares on JetBlue to Chicago and free MegaBus seats from there, I'll be in Minneapolis for a few short days in order to catch the 1-act play Gavi is directing on Friday, January 28th. Serendipitously, the timing may just coincide with a branding brainstorming meeting a new client there. Fingers crossed they like the proposal I'm working on this weekend.

Winter is far from my favorite time to spend in the midwest, but making a single, long trip is allowing me to be at both Gavi's 1-act and Capricon...and also at part of the Chicon 7 meeting the last weekend in January. There's an Chicon 7 open meeting/social gathering Saturday night, January 29th -- mark your calendars, Chicagoans and likely suspects. Location TBA; I'll be sure to post it here.

All of these plans are putting the win in winter. Whee!

I'm planning to be at Capricon, running the London in 2014 bid desk.

Whee! That'll be nice.

I'm so very happy to know this. Any interest in making some poppyseed cake of your choosing for the tasting?

If wishes count
Cap and Boskone.

Re: If wishes count
I wish the same for you. That would be utterly splendid.

Boskone - still hating winter, but not quite as badly since I got on synthroid
Dec. 17th, 2010 01:34 pm (UTC)
"Not as badly" sounds like a win; having you at Boskone certainly will be!
Dec. 17th, 2010 12:38 pm (UTC)
We'll be at Boskone...and, oddly, at Capricon.
Dec. 17th, 2010 01:37 pm (UTC)
Not so oddly. After having attending only two out of 10 consecutive Worldcons, I was at three out of the following five because the GoHs were dear, dear friends of mine.

It looks like there'll be lots of cool people for me to see at Capricon.

Rock on! It will be so good to see you again. :-)

Sometimes I just really, really hate financial stress. I had a great time at the only Boskone I ever attended (1975) and have heard good things about Capricon, but I am in no shape to attend either one. Oh, well -- have a great time and let us know how much fun you have. (Also, I am impressed that Gavi is directing a one-act play.)

Re: Cons
I'm with you on hating, hating, hating financial stress, much as I see how my past and occasionally present behavior contributes to it in my case. Much as I want to see the one-act play that Gavi's directing, to make it back to Minneapolis for one of her senior year activities, I didn't make travel arrangements until it was possible to do so for roughly half the going rate. The good part about winter travel is that leaving the heat turned down at home for a few weeks will help finance the trip. (In the long run, anyway.)

I savor the time with them, but I rely on friends' hospitality more than I'd prefer. Without it, I simply wouldn't be able to make the trip at all. But it's hard, especially since I'm not in a position to extend what I consider to be the normal thanks of taking everyone out to a nice dinner as well as bringing small prezzies, picking up groceries, helping with errands, and the other sorts of things good house guests do.

I'll be at both Arisia and Boskone, but not Capricon.
Dec. 17th, 2010 07:35 pm (UTC)
I look forward to seeing you at the Westin!
Dec. 17th, 2010 10:53 pm (UTC)
I'll be at Cap - helping throw UK in 2014 parties - helping mike on t'desk and well telling folks why London is awesome.
Look forward to seeing you.

Wow. WowWowWowWowWOW.

I'm really glad I'm hearing you'll be at Cap after I know that I'm unexpectedly going to be there myself. If I'd heard back when I hadn't a thought of being there, I would have wanted to go oh, so badly.

Have I mentioned the many advantages of convention bidding lately? And how happy I am you're so involved with the London bid? 'Cause I am.

Dec. 19th, 2010 05:10 pm (UTC)
Thats all cool.
I am enjoying the bid, but its doing what I do reasnobley well, work with good folks, talk about an exciting oppurtunity of a con, and have a great time and talk about science fiction.

dont get much better than that.

We will, of course, be at Cap, and at Boskone, too. Really touched that you're making the effort to come to Chicago at least partially because we'll be there, too. Also pleased to see from the comments how many others are planning to be there too, even if they're not coming for us :->
Dec. 19th, 2010 02:02 am (UTC)
You and Stephen add to the fun of whatever convention you're at. I'm very pleased that Capricon 31 has such good taste in Guests of Honor; it's a great line up through and through.
Dec. 18th, 2010 04:52 pm (UTC)
Cap is a maybe but looking doubtful - others are likely a no.
Dec. 19th, 2010 01:58 am (UTC)
Fingers crossed, and if not Cap, I look forward to seeing you again whenever it works out next.
Dec. 19th, 2010 12:44 am (UTC)
I intend to be at Capircon and looking fowards to seeing you there.

Free Megabus to Mpls?
Dec. 19th, 2010 01:58 am (UTC)

Will there be Hakosot?

Yep. Megabus is giving away 200,000 seats between January 12 & March 1, 2011. I had to pay their usual 50 cent booking fee, but no additional charges.
Dec. 19th, 2010 02:51 pm (UTC)
Thanks. Took a look at Megabus, and I can't persuade them to display booking times beyond mid-January, not to mention a few random crashes of their web site... I guess the giveaway was more popular than they thought!

Hakosot at 1 AM in the consuite --

Coincidence; I'm in charge of the fan tables at Ad Astra this coming year! Low responsibility, and it allows me to assist Yvonne who will be running the Green Room.
