Life is brighter here at Toad Woods

My subject line can be attributed to the burned-out lightbulbs I replaced in the mudroom hall, kitchen, basement stairway, and living room.

Life's brighter on other fronts, too, most immediately the fact that I'll be spending Saturday and Sunday in the woodturning class at Snow Farm. I haven't made anything on a lathe since I was 12 or 13. Time spent in Daddy's workshop in the basement of 22 Grand Blvd. rank high in the fondest memories from my childhood. The deep, emotional joy permeates my life -- the aroma of freshly-cut wood, sawdust, and just plain being in a workshop...especially a wood-working workshop...it's my crack. There's the high, the sense of well-being...and no downer follows. Visiting Mike Anderson's workshop in Marathon, WI, back in 2010 brought that flood of joy. And now I get to spend two days in a workshop where a dozen of us are making turned objects from wood. Heck, just sitting there listening and breathing would be sheer bliss. The learning and making are pure lagniappe in this case. But both learning and making are also lifelong sources of joy for me.

So, yeah, life is bright, indeed. And *now* I'm going to bed, so as to have some real sleep before driving and operating power tools. Will wonders never cease?

Day 1: Bliss, sheer bliss. Well, okay, lots of listening, lots of learning, lots of finding out how things felt when the were going wrong with the tools and the wood...and a fair bit of finding out how they felt when it was going right. Utterly happy-making. Post and photos to come.

Did you use LED bulbs? They have really come down in price.

Good luck and have fun with the woodworking.

I'm still on CFLs, which are under $1 each and I like the 5000K Daylight bulbs.

I've picked up some outdoor solar lighting that uses LEDs, and one plug-in thing. Will likely pick up more of those -- solar lights have improved a lot over the last 10 years.

Yeah, the price is still a bit high for the LEDs (about $7 at Ikea iirc).

Sleep before power tools sounds like a fine idea!

Oh, yeah.

Stopping off at The Elbow Room for a cup of coffee with a shot of espresso supplemented the sleep quite nicely. (The sleep was still a few hours short of good, and the week itself had been utterly horrid on the sleep front.)
